In 2012, we were chosen to develop new services for NorgesGruppen’s entire grocery brand portfolio. This meant borrowing data from Norgesgruppen’s core systems, including their loyalty program Trumf, and finding ways to use it for rapid service and application development.
To be able to play freely in this complex environment, a bimodal IT model was put on the job. This took the shape of a shared Digital Service Platform (DSP); a simple concept, but a powerful communication model. The model can help you reach all your digital bits and bobs, available through a unified interface. It also helps you untangle the jungle of legacy IT systems and isolated organisations, or even establish new lines of (platform) businesses. Don’t let the simple architecture fool you, because under the hood hides a powerful engine that unlocks value of data and assets.
On top of the DSP, we established a DevOps-team that used continuous delivery in order to shorten time-to-market and minimise risk. Focusing on the grocery brand portfolio, we were able to identify common functional needs and implement generalised features in the DSP that could be applied effectively into the various customer-facing brand concepts (mobile applications and websites). The brands were happy that someone took care of the heavy lifting (integrations, algorithms and such), while NorgesGruppen clapped their hands for all the synergies being created.
